Lil Uzi Vert made quite an impression at Rolling Loud California this past weekend, debuting new music and updating fans on his highly anticipated Pink Tape project. The Philly native took the stage ahead of Future, sporting multi-colored eye contacts, a spiked hairstyle, and a red jacket.
During his set, Lil Uzi Vert gave fans a sneak peek of a new track that shows love to his former rival and collaborator, Playboi Carti. The unreleased song includes the lyrics, “Shout out to Carti, we don’t talk hardly, but that’s where my heart be.” The L.A. crowd was also treated to a couple of other new tracks, one featuring an assist from Future and the other referencing his rumored relationship with City Girls rapper JT.
However, the highlight of Lil Uzi Vert’s set was his announcement about the Pink Tape project. He apologized for the delay and promised fans that the album was in its final stages, saying, “I do make y’all wait a long time for music and I’m so sorry. I thought that sht was cool before, but that sht is lame. I’m putting the final touches on Pink Tape and I promise – I made a lot of promises in my life, but this time I promise.”
This isn’t the first time that Lil Uzi Vert has teased the release of Pink Tape. He mentioned in an interview with HipHopDX in August 2021 that the album was in its “mixing stages.” At the beginning of this year, he hinted that the project would be released in February, but no official release date has been confirmed yet.
Despite the wait, Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape LP promises to be worth it. Generation Now co-founder Don Cannon revealed that Uzi has recorded nearly 700 songs for the album and that it won’t feature any collaborations. Cannon also praised Uzi’s incredible work ethic, stating, “He give you a hit and do five songs a day. Nobody believes me. I bring them to the studio to see. Sober, high, when he used to get high and now he’s sober doing it. Ain’t nothing changed. He’s one of those guys, and it’s different because you’re getting all different kinds of songs out of him.”
Fans of Lil Uzi Vert can look forward to the release of Pink Tape and enjoy his latest music offerings until then.
